There are certain contraindications to fascia release. While fascia release can be beneficial for many people, it is important to approach it with caution in the following situations:
1. Acute Injury or Inflammation: Applying pressure to an area that has an acute injury (e.g., a recent sprain, strain, or fracture) or is inflamed may worsen the condition and delay healing.
2. Blood Clotting Disorders or Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Compression techniques can potentially dislodge blood clots, which could lead to serious complications such as a pulmonary embolism. People with clotting disorders or a history of DVT should avoid this technique unless cleared by a healthcare provider.
3. Varicose Veins: Compression over varicose veins may cause damage to the already weakened veins and exacerbate symptoms.
4. Osteoporosis or Bone Fragility: People with osteoporosis or other conditions that weaken bones should avoid deep compression techniques, as they could cause fractures.
5. Recent Surgery or Scar Tissue: Compression techniques should not be applied directly over recent surgical sites, stitches, or healing scar tissue, as this may disrupt the healing process.
6. Open Wounds, Skin Infections, or Rashes: Compression on areas with open wounds, skin infections, or rashes should be avoided to prevent irritation, infection, or delayed healing.
7. Chronic Conditions: People with chronic conditions like uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, or autoimmune diseases should consult with a healthcare provider before performing any fascia release, as these conditions may affect how the body responds to treatment.
8. Pregnancy: During pregnancy, particularly in the later stages, it’s important to be cautious with deep tissue work and avoid certain areas, like the abdomen, due to the risk of stimulating contractions or affecting blood circulation.
9. Nerve Compression Syndromes: If someone has a condition that involves nerve compression (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome), they should be cautious with fascia release near the affected area, as it could irritate the nerve further.
For those with any of the above conditions, it’s crucial to seek guidance from a healthcare professional before attempting fascia release using compression techniques.
If you have ANY pre-existing medical conditions, you should discuss your specific condition with your doctor PRIOR to doing any exercise program, including the Unlock Your Vitality Workshop.
If you have a serious allergy to latex we recommend you not use the Therapy Balls as they are made of a natural latex rubber. If you have a mild allergy to latex you could most likely use them as long as they are not in direct contact with your skin, but rather used with a layer of clothing between you and your skin. As with any medical condition, however, we highly recommend you consult with your doctor before use.
Recommended for individuals over 18 years old. Children should be supervised by legal guardians during this workshop.
